Abstract
Nowadays, societies that cannot meet their demand for goods and services from their own productive land, must import bio-capacity from other ecosystems. The Ecological Footprint (EF) is an indicator that allows an approximation to the relationship between the resources in demand in a community and the productive land necessary to satisfy that demand and it is estimated through the calculation of a group of sub-footprints. This paper presents a first approximation to the Carbon Footprint (CF) for General Pueyrredón (province of Buenos Aires, Argentina) as a prior step towards calculating the CO2 absorption sub-footprint for 2010. To this aim, information about electric, fuel and gas consumption at local level was used, and CO2 emissions resulting from such uses were calculated and related to the soil use capacity to absorb CO2. The results showed that the population in general Pueyrredón needed the equivalent to 85 times the surface of the partido to meet its demand for goods and services.
Original Abstract
