It compares traditional methods, beginning from most primitive (a) to advanced/modern day methods (e). The paper discusses further on specific details of each farming system, but this graphic allows us to see the changes in complexity of farming practices as well as the extreme increases in Nitrogen fertilizers in modern day practices.
